In response to the Department of Defense and Air Force guidance to provide cultural education and awareness to the enlisted corps, the Community College of the Air Force and the Air Force Culture and Language Center are offering a Distance Learning Course, Introduction to Cross-Cultural Communication, providing the knowledge and skills associated with cross-cultural communication in an applied context.

CLTR202, Introduction to Cross-Cultural Communication, is a general education course that fulfills three resident hours of Program Elective and Residence/Institutional credit required for the CCAF Associate of Applied Science degree. The purpose of the course is to provide foundational knowledge essential for developing cross-cultural communication competence, focusing on the concepts, skills, and applications relevant to military personnel.

Introduction to Cross-Cultural Communication (through readings, videos, and simulations) explores subjects such as levels of orientation, identities, cultural domains, the culture of the United States, nonverbal communication, and active listening. It also includes lessons on relationship-building and conflict resolution reinforced through actual narratives of Airmen’s personal and professional experiences.

Students are provided the course and all instructional material at no cost. The course content and readings are delivered via Air University’s web-based Canvas learning management system. Reliable access to the internet for course participation and research is required. The course is self-paced and consists of nine modules, which students will be tested on by a series of Milestone Assignments and a Final Exam.
