Our Expeditionary Courses equip Airmen prior to their deployment with basic cross-cultural competence skills via online training. These courses are mandatory for General Purpose Force (GPF) Airmen assigned to Air Expeditionary Forces (AEF) tempo deployment bands.
The courses are delivered in 2 parts: Basic Deployment Readiness AOR Specific and Basic Deployment Readiness Country Specific. They are delivered through the Air Force’s myLearning system and can be found in the Course List under Ready Airman Training (RAT):
Culture Awareness: South Korea (MLMW1209)
The South Korea culture awareness course consists of two engaging learning segments meant to increase the student’s knowledge of the South Korean people and their culture. Part 1 consists of an overview of culture and how the Air Force Culture and Language Center defines and explains Cross-Cultural Competence in light of the 12 domains of culture. In Part 2, the student uses their knowledge of the 12 domains of culture to further develop their understanding of the South Korean people, their culture, and ultimately prepares the student to visit South Korea with a heightened level of cross-cultural competence.
Culture Awareness: China (MLMW0602)
This course consists of two informative segments. Part 1 introduces the concept of culture, social behaviors, and how they define a culture’s native belief system. Part 2 covers the 12 Domains of Culture concerning China, the nation’s history, religion, socio-political relations, and more!
Culture Awareness: Japan (MLMW0604)
This course consists of two engaging learning segments. Part 1 delves into the overview of the concept of culture, social behaviors, and how the 12 domains of culture are defined. In Part 2 covers the 12 domains of culture to better understand the cultural norms of Japan, ultimately enriching understanding of the Japanese people and society.
Culture Awareness: Russia (MLMW0603)
This consists of two informative segments. Part 1 introduces conceptions and philosophies related to culture in general. Part 2 introduces Russia as a nation, its multifaceted history, and explores the socio-political climate that encompasses the Federation in the 21st Century.
Cultural Awareness: Iran (MLMW1717)
Introduction to Iran provides foundation information of basic concepts and practices which enhance our cross-cultural competence to achieve a better adversarial understanding of Iran. The course is divided into two parts: Part 1 teaches key culture general terminology and Part 2 focuses specifically on Iranian culture using the framework of the 12 Domains of Culture. The course is a 59 minute, no-credit, student-led, asynchronous offering with a function to download a certificate upon completion.
Cultural Awareness: Philippines (MLMW2307)
The purpose of this course is to provide an introduction to cultures in general by segmenting cultures into 12 domains through which all cultures share commonality (e.g. time and space, history and myth, technology and material, etc.). The course will then introduce specific culture topics of the country within the 12 domains construct.
USCENTCOM AF Culture Specific-Afghanistan
Each student will comprehend how an awareness of the fundamentals of Afghan culture influence and achieve mutually beneficial results through cross cultural interaction.
USCENTCOM AF Culture Specific-Iraq
Each student will comprehend how an awareness of the fundamentals of Iraqi culture influence and achieve mutually beneficial results through cross cultural interaction.
