CASI Quarterly update #3 for 2021
Friends of CASI,
Despite COVID preventing CASI from attending the bi-annual AIRSHOW China in Zhuhai this year, CASI continues to remain busy with research, publications, engagements, and now videos. We are also pleased to announce that we have several new analysts who have joined CASI in the last couple of months. At CASI-South, MSgt Samantha Payne has joined the team and hit the ground running. At CASI-North, Mr. Eli Tirk joined us in July, and MSgt Dan Salisbury joined us in August. We are super excited to have them all on board and contributing to the mission.
CASI's Foundations of Competition with China video was chosen by the CSAF for inclusion in the CSAF Leadership Library for September. We were honored to be included.
CASI is holding its next installment of the Fundamentals of the People’s Liberation Army three-day course this month, 26-28 Oct. If you are registered already- then we look forward to seeing you! Current Research
- Joint project with Australian Strategic Policy Institute (ASPI), focused on how China views deterrence, how they seek to implement it, and what Australia and the U.S. can do about it. This will serve as the basis for our Bi-Annual CASI Conference in May of 2022. Stay tuned for more details.

Engagement and Outreach
In addition to providing support to Air Force staff, CASI has had another busy quarter supporting the USAF and the DoD, as well as our allies, partners, and friends. CASI:
- Guest speaker at the African-American China Leadership Fellows Program (AACLF)
- Assisted with Under Secretary of the Air Force’s speech preparation, CASI focused on the PLA’s Digital Transformation
- Gave keynote speech on CCP at 100 & the Chinese narrative with Lt Gen Jack Shanahan for the Military Cyber Professionals Association Speaker Series.
- Talked at a panel on Great Power Competition for the JPME II Senior Leader Foundational Course at the National Defense University College of Information and Cyberspace.
- Guest lectured for the JPME II Senior Leader Foundational Course on the Chinese Narrative at the National Defense University College of Information and Cyberspace.
- Met with New Zealand Chief of Defense Force Kevin Short at a National Defense University organized event.
- Gave a talk on China’s new National Cyber Center with Brig Gen (Ret) Robert Spalding for the Military Cyber Professionals Association Lecture Series.
- Spoke on a panel titled “Cybersecurity in Space” at the Space Education & Strategic Applications Conference.
- Met with Director of OSD Red Team for China-related topics
