LDC Creed: Changing leaders’ expectations of what’s possible in the human domain to strengthen the leadership DNA of the force.

LDC Course details:

- CSAF initiative that connects to a broader continuum of learning and closes gaps discovered during the squadron vitality study to prepare officers, civilian and enlisted leaders to thrive in command

- Format: 8-day fast-paced, experiential and seminar-based course instructed by graduated squadron commanders, SNCO's, and civilian academic experts

- Audience: Commissioned officers between 9 and 16 years, civilians GS-13 and above and enlisted E-7 to E-9 leaders nominated/endorsed by their Wing Commanders as demonstrating highest potential to command/direct at the squadron level, and key spouses

- Up to 120 Students per class with 14 classes totaling 1500 Total Force students per year

 

Course Outcomes:

- Prepare for an inspired squadron command

- Build self-awareness and emotional intelligence to provide purposeful leadership

- Develop interpersonal skills to foster esprit de corps

- Build a unit culture conducive to achieving verifiable mission success

- Develop a personal philosophy of command

- Understand the value of a peer network

- Align resources with strategy, mission, vision & values

- Assess and improve command climate & org culture

- Value taking calculated risks & learning from mistakes

- Value critical thinking & values in decision making    

 

Cadre: Graduated squadron commanders, graduated superintendents, and civilian academic experts. Augmented by JAG  School, First Sergeant Academy, Chief’s Leadership Course, and Chaplain’s College instructors.

Mentors: Retired general officers and senior enlisted, current command teams, and volunteer lead spouses.

Eligibility: Total Force (Active, Reserve, National Guard, Civil Air Patrol) and International Officers. Officers with 9-16 years commissioned service, GS-13-equivalent or higher civilians, and E-7 to E-9. Senior-rater selects members to attend.

Timing: 3 years to 6 months prior to 1st command-level job – allow time for personal growth. 

Experience – The top-level standard that culminates in an impactful experience.

Environment – Whether in residence or virtual, LDC instructors maximize and carefully orchestrate the internal and external learning environments so that stud ents’ learning comes from self, peers, and instructors in meaningful ways.

Delivery – LDC instructors use a variety of teaching techniques that go beyond pedagogy and andragogy. They leverage the best practices and incorporate music, coaching, improv, virtual/immersive reality and other methods. Together, these delivery methods are the new frontier in teaching leaders called Leadergogy.

Content – LDC provides relevant, thought provoking frameworks for hard hitting content in the human domain, such as diversity, values, and inclusion; clarity of purpose; mental health; leading in a crisis; and leadership coaching.

Connection  – Relationships matter in the human domain, so LDC starts with connection to build trust and strengthen the social fabric among participants.
