Welcome to the new US Air Force Journal of the Americas, an Air University triannual publication.
In 1948, at the ninth International Conference of American States, held at Bogotá, Colombia, the US was requested to publish the USAF Air University Quarterly Review in Spanish and Portuguese for our allied Latin American Air Forces. In 1948, Gen George Kenney, Commander of Air University, sought approval from Gen Hoyt S. Vandenberg, US Air Force Chief of Staff, to begin publishing in both languages, a request that culminated in the publication of the first issues of Air University Quarterly Review-Spanish and Air University Quarterly Review-Portuguese in the Fall of 1949.
Over the years, the names of both Spanish and Portuguese journals changed with the times: From Air University Quarterly Review to Airpower Journal, Aerospace Power Journal, and Air & Space Power Journal. Finally in 2019, the USAF Journal of the Americas (JotA) emerged as a brand-new journal, not only combining the old Spanish and Portuguese journals, but adding English as well, to better reflect our focus on the entirety of the Western Hemisphere.
To this end, JotA is published in the three predominant languages of our continent: English, Spanish, and Portuguese (ISSN 2639-7994-Print and ISSN 2639-801X-online), and is a forum for the dissemination of original research and review articles in numerous areas, refereed by subject-matter experts, of an academic nature, whose mission seeks to stimulate professional dialogue on Air and Space Power among the members of the armed forces of the Americas, historians, professors, and the general public. We present not only articles related to the technology, strategy and air and space doctrine of the Department of the US Air Force, but also varied topics of great historical, social or professional interest in the Western Hemisphere. We think that professional dialogue should include a wide range of ideas, and our articles reflect it.
JotA is produced triannually at Maxwell Air Base, Montgomery, Alabama. Starting in 2024, JotA transitioned to a fully digital publication, with subscribers from over 20 countries. We welcome your articles and comments, please communicate with us via e-mail or postal mail:
