WRIGHT-PATTERSON AIR FORCE BASE, Ohio – The Air Force Materiel Command has selected two Wright-Patterson AFB employees as winners of the 2016 AFMC Sexual Assault Prevention and Response awards.

The 2016 AFMC Sexual Assault Prevention and Response award recognizes sexual assault response coordinators who have demonstrated outstanding service in support of the AFMC workforce by educating, advocating and collaborating to respond to and stop sexual assault and its harmful effects on the Air Force.

Winner of the Sexual Assault Response Coordinator of the Year, Carmen Schott, AFMC/A1R, is being recognized for her achievements as the installation sexual assault response program coordinator by supporting over 22,000 assigned personnel across a major command, two centers, five wings/wing equivalents, and over 115 assigned missions.

Schott built stronger relationships with both base and local agencies and continued to professionally develop her staff and volunteers. Schott was also responsible for increasing volunteer victim advocates by 50 percent and piloting the first Air Force Green Dot program.

Full Time Victim Advocate of the Year winner, April Barrows, 88 ABW/CVS, was selected for her outstanding efforts in expanding the sexual assault prevention and response training program. Barrows organized over 300 sexual assault prevention and response trainings that resulted in approximately 1,500 trained Airmen.

In addition, Barrows created a sexual assault prevention response curriculum for the Airman Leadership School and also crafted four courses on sexual assault responses for the volunteer victim advocates.

"Carmen and April are two of AFMC's best,” said Scott Crum, AFMC Chief, Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Office. “They take their roles here at Wright-Patterson AFB very seriously and are constantly working to help promote an environment and culture free from sexual assault and other negative behaviors."

The award cycle encompasses Jan. 1, 2016 to Dec. 31, 2016 and the two winners will go on to represent AFMC to compete at Air Force level. Winners will be announced in April 2017 in observance of Sexual Assault Awareness and Prevention Month.
