MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. -- Maxwell excelled during an annual Unit Effectiveness Inspection capstone on base, March 6 to 13, 2017.
During their six-day visit, inspectors visited all work areas of the wing and conducted confidential interviews with randomly selected Airmen.
The Air Education and Training Command Inspector General team evaluated the 42nd Air Base Wing in four major areas: managing resources, leading people, improving the unit, and executing the mission. Installations are graded on a four-tier scale: highly effective, effective, marginally effective and ineffective. The base received an effective rating.

"Our team comes to work consistently executing the mission at the highest levels and the AETC IG team just confirmed it. Everyone did a fantastic job showing how the wing is always there as the foundation of support for all our mission partners. Our Airmen's performance and effort daily make me proud to lead this great team and it's the reason why Maxwell is the Best Hometown in the Air Force.”
Maxwell’s effective rating indicates the following are generally true: mission requirements are met in all mission areas and personnel are proficient; Commander Inspection Program - provides the command chain an accurate, adequate and relevant picture of unit performance; resources are managed in an effective and compliant manner; leaders treat Airmen with respect and provide a healthy and safe work environment; management systems are present and continuous process improvement efforts are evident; programs have few significant deficiencies and many necessary waivers are in effect; risk-based criteria are often considered when allocating resources and making decisions; critical processes are documented, measured and repeatable; a majority of units/programs across the wing have embraced a culture of self-assessment; problems are identified, commanders are aware of issues and solid corrective action plans are in place.
"Our team performance during the inspection was a reflection of what we do every day," said Col. Barry Dickey, 42nd Air Base Wing Vice Commander. "Our units didn't need to put on a show for the inspection team--we conducted business as normal, and the positive UEI result validates we're doing the right things. Every member of this team should be proud of how we did in the inspection, because I can affirm base leadership is very proud of them."
The 42 ABW consists of two groups, 10 squadrons, and over 1,700 personnel providing base support to over 40 mission partners to include Air University. According to the UEI report, feedback from key mission partners indicated positive and responsive support to unique mission requirements. On-going initiatives and innovations in perimeter defense and security, medical services, and current mission analysis to support potential growth in air operations further highlights the wing’s commitment to “Delivering Timely, Effective, Professional and Innovative Support”.
The base now begins a new 24-30 month UEI inspection cycle, culminating in the next capstone visit.
