The Governor of Alabama, Kay Ivey, hosted a signing ceremony for eight new bills that will impact service members at Maxwell Air Force Base, May 23, 2017.

Governor Ivey said she was proud of the strong bond and mutually beneficial relationship between the United States Armed Forces and the state of Alabama, both from the vast numbers of Alabamians who have worn the uniform, and through the support given by the local communities.

Ivey said there are too many accomplishments made by passing these bills to list them all, but she highlighted a few she thought were really important: Senate Bill 97, Senate Bill 203 and Senate Bill 315.

Senate Bill 97 grants benefits of the Federal Uniformed Services Employment and Re-employment Rights Act to members of the National Guard from another state.

Senate Bill 203 clarifies the degree of access for military recruiters to schools, colleges and universities.

Senate Bill 315 makes it easier and more affordable for service members to attend an Alabama college or University.

Both houses of the state legislature passed the bills with favorable support, signifying to Ivey that supporting service members is a common cause that all Alabamians can rally behind.

“Alabama and the United States Armed Forces go together like butter and molasses on a warm biscuit,” she said.
