WASHINGTON--Joint Staff Spokesperson Col. Patrick S. Ryder provided the following readout:
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph F. Dunford, Jr. met with the Lithuanian Chief of Defence Lt. Gen. Jonas Vytautas Žukas today.
The two military leaders discussed a range of issues, including the current security environment in the Baltic region, interoperability, NATO combined training at the National Training Center and training exercises planned for this summer. Gen. Dunford thanked Lt. Gen. Žukas for Lithuania's military contributions to the fight against terrorism.
The two leaders agreed to continue to strengthen cooperation and improve capabilities through modernization.
During the visit, Gen. Dunford hosted an Armed Forces Full Honor Arrival ceremony at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall where he presented Lt. Gen. Žukas with the Legion of Merit for his meritorious service and leadership.
The United States remains committed to its strong bilateral relationship with Lithuania and the security of the Baltic region.
