Airmen from Air University's Squadron Officer School traveled to the Alabama National Cemetery to help the local community honor the state's fallen veterans as a part of Wreaths Across America, Dec. 14, 2018, in Montevallo, Alabama.

Wreaths Across America is a national organization that through the donations from sponsors, ships holiday wreaths to cemeteries from across the country to place on the graves of our nation’s heroes.

The Airmen worked alongside other civilian volunteers and the Alabama National Cemetery Support Committee to unload and sort over 600 boxes of wreaths that were later distributed to various locations in the cemetery for the ceremony that Saturday.

Maj. Alex Moon, SOS Instructor, is the president of the schools community service program called the Red Pants Alliance and said SOS has supported WAA for at least three years now and are always taking opportunities to get involved in the community.

Moon couldn't help out this year, but has been long involved in the program even before arriving to Maxwell. He said, "It's a way to honor veterans, any chance you can get to honor those before you, I think is special, and it instills a sense of duty and reminds you why you are doing what you are doing and any chance you can get to be reminded of that makes waking up on Monday a little easier."
