WASHINGTON--Joint Staff Spokesperson Col. Patrick S. Ryder provided the following readout:
Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Gen. Joseph F. Dunford, Jr. spoke today with Chief of Staff, Joint Staff, Japan Self-Defense Forces, Gen. Koji Yamazaki.
The two senior leaders discussed the current security environment in the Indo-Pacific region and reaffirmed their commitment to continuing close military cooperation. Gen. Dunford also reiterated that the U.S. is committed to a free and open Indo-Pacific and to the security of Japan.
The alliance between the United States and Japan remains the cornerstone of peace and security in the Indo-Pacific region.
