Squadron Officer School change of command

Col. Ricky L. Mills took over as the commander and commandant of Squadron Officer School from Col. Wayne W. Straw during a change of command ceremony August 2, 2019, at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama.


Mills served as the 17th Training Wing commander, Goodfellow Air Force Base, Texas, before taking command, and the position of commandant, of SOS.


Straw stood as the SOS commander and commandant from July, 2016, to August, 2019, and is moving on to serve as an instructor at Air War College.


Air University’s SOS stands to educate Air Force captains to think, communicate, cooperate and lead in the joint environment. Graduated students return to their units with an enhanced understanding of the institutional competencies, leadership actions and key elements of reasoning required to fly, fight and win in the 21st century.
