Secretary of the Air Force Barbara M. Barrett made her first official trip, and visited F.E. Warren Air Force Base, Oct. 27.

Barrett, the 25th Secretary of the Air Force, visited various facilities to gain a better understanding of the pivotal nuclear mission that defends the U.S. and its allies.

During her visit, Barrett met with Wyoming Gov. Mark Gordon and thanked him for his leadership and continued support to the military.

“First off, thank you for taking time out of elk season to welcome me here to Wyoming,” Barrett said. “The relationship between the community and the military throughout the state is impressive.”

She also spoke with 90th Missile Wing Airmen while visiting the missile training facility U-01 and the missile procedure trainer.

“I saw the precision and care of day-to-day operations across the wing,” Barrett said. “Everyone takes pride in operating, maintaining and supporting the nuclear enterprise in a safe, secure and effective manner.”

During a tour of U-01, Barrett descended into the missile silo, gathering perspective into a missile maintainer’s job and the vastness of the intercontinental ballistic missile and equipment used to keep the mission operational.

Ensuring the ICBM mission is continuously operational to act at a moment’s notice is vital to the safety of this nation.

“America can sleep easy with the (F.E. Warren AFB Airmen) on watch,” Barrett said.
