Col. Patrick Carley, 42nd Air Base Wing commander, extended the Public Health Emergency for Maxwell Air Force Base and Gunter Annex.

Maxwell-Gunter remains at Health Protection Condition Charlie (HPCON-C) per alignment with DoD direction.

“While we have seen a stabilizing number of cases in Alabama, we must remain vigilant in minimizing the spread of the coronavirus while protecting the health and safety of our Airmen,” Carley said. “Based on information from the installation Public Health Emergency Officer and other medical professionals, I have extended the Public Health Emergency declaration for 90 more days.”

Recently published Department of the Air Force and Department of Defense guidance directs that installation commanders review the public health situation every 90 days after declaring a public health emergency.

Coincidentally, Alabama’s State Health Officer, Dr. Scott Harris, issued the Safer at Home order beginning April 30, at 5 P.M, and will be in effect until May 15 at 5 P.M. The new Safer at Home order allows all retail stores and beaches to open with limited capacity and enforcing physical distancing and sanitation guidelines.

“The Maxwell community appreciates the work that the state of Alabama is doing to minimize the spread of COVID-19 and I strongly encourage all of our personnel to follow the Governor’s Safer at Home order,” said Carley. “As the state moves to the Safer at Home measures, it’s important to keep following public health guidance, such as physical distancing, forgoing unnecessary trips and wearing cloth face coverings when applicable.”

The CDC has identified additional symptoms of COVID-19, including cough, shortness of breath, fever, sore throat, headache, chills, muscle pain and a new loss of taste and/or smell.

If you have any of these symptoms, please call the Medical Group at (334) 953-3368 for further steps to take.
