MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala -- The Air Force’s newest CMSgt-selects were invited to participate in the Chief’s Orientation on behalf of the CMSAF at Gunter Annex Feb.15-18, 2022.
The event brings together all of the chief master sergeant selects from across the globe, introduces this cohort to each other as a source to learn and lean on, and provides an opportunity for them to connect with Air Force senior leaders to help prepare them for life as a chief master sergeant.
The orientation focused on three areas: Readiness, People, and Culture.
• Readiness stressed the shift to integrated deterrence with a focus on understanding China and Russia.
• People focused on modernizing enlisted force development to retain our Airmen and Guardians.
• Culture speaks to building a service that is inclusive and allow our members to thrive.
This year, 495 CMSgt-selects heard remarks from Chief Master Sgt. of the Air Force JoAnne S. Bass and Air Force Chief of Staff Gen. Charles Q. Brown, Jr.
“Throughout my career there was a steady learning curve from airman basic all the way to chief,” said Bass. “Once I made chief, that learning curve went into overdrive. It’s important to understand that who you are today pales in comparison to who you will be two years from now.”
The goal of the orientation is for the CMSgt to further develop a strategic mindset and have greater knowledge base on the tools and resources available to be effective on command teams and to care for their Airmen, and a lifetime connection with their chief master sergeant peers.
