MAXWELL AIR FORCE, Ala. -- In accordance with new DoD guidance, the issuing of new DoD Civil Service Retiree ID Cards will stop immediately. Previously issued DoD Civil Service Retiree ID Cards will remain valid only through Aug. 31, 2023, and this is regardless of the card’s expiration date.
To continue utilizing base amenities, DoD Civil Service Retirees must provide their SF50 and state-issued identification or driver’s license to the Maxwell Visitor Center. Once access is verified, the member will receive a validated Defense Biometric Identification System, or DBIDS, ID card.
The DBIDS ID cards will be valid for one year from the date of issuance. The card will allow sponsorship of up to six people, and can be used for the purpose of accessing morale, welfare, and recreation activities offered on Maxwell AFB, Gunter Annex, and Lake Martin recreation grounds.
Of note, this change will not impact Military Retirees. Military Retirees will continue to receive DEERS generated ID cards upon retirement through the installation’s Force Support Squadron.
The Maxwell Visitor Center is located on Maxwell Blvd, and operating hours are Monday through Friday from 7:30 a.m.to 4:30 p.m. (Closed for lunch 11:00am - 1:00pm). It is closed on weekends and federal holidays. All DBIDS cards will be issued at the Maxwell Visitor Center only and not on Gunter Annex.
In implementing this new DOD guidance, Maxwell’s Security Forces Squadron is providing the process for Civil Service Retirees to access base services while ensuring proper base entry requirements are enforced.
