In a testament to his outstanding contributions to the field of civil engineering, Craig DeBeni was honored with the 2023 Air Force Association Lisa S. Disbrow Outstanding Civilian of the Year Award at the Air Force level. This award is given to a civilian who exemplifies the professionalism and dedication to duty of former under secretary Disbrow. This accolade recognizes DeBeni's exceptional leadership and innovative initiatives within the civil engineer community.
As an instructor of energy and electrical systems at the Air Force Institute of Technology’s Civil Engineer School, DeBeni plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of civil engineering within the Air Force. His commitment to excellence, coupled with his innovative approach to education and training, exemplifies the highest standards of service and professionalism.
DeBeni's achievements over the past year underscore his commitment to advancing the field. He advanced the secretary of the Air Force’s Resilient Basing Operations Imperative by leading the first ever Air Force control systems cybersecurity course. His efforts garnered $1.2M in continuing control systems cybersecurity education for 250 technicians every year. As the course director for energy management, he initiated a new energy management credentialing program that provides on-demand credentialing for 80 energy managers per year. These initiatives not only enhance the skill set of personnel, but also fortify the Air Force's capabilities in critical infrastructure protection.
Furthermore, DeBeni's appointment as a flight commander for the WMGT 101 Air Force Civil Engineer Basic Course marks a significant milestone. He is one of the first civilians in over 12 years to hold this leadership position; providing over 136 hours of mentorship to the next generation of Air Force civil engineers.
