Commander's Action Line Published March 1, 2013 MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. -- Complaint: On the morning of Feb. 8, I was honked at on Maxwell Boulevard because I was following the speed limit in a school zone. For the past few months, I've noticed drivers getting more aggressive in the school zone by the post office and Holm Center. Most mornings they tailgate me, or change lanes and speed by me because I'm going the required 15 miles per hour. Sir, can you have security forces patrol this area in the morning? I noticed their cars in this area at the beginning of the school year, but haven't seen one in a while. For me, that honk was a wake-up call that people are either unaware of the signs or do not care. I shouldn't feel intimidated because I'm following base policies. 42nd Air Base Wing response: Thanks for bringing this to our attention and thanks for being a responsible driver. No one should feel intimated or ashamed about doing the right thing, and driving the speed limit is the right and safe thing to do, especially in a school zone. Our security forces are responsible for traffic enforcement across the entire installation and sometimes are simply unable to be aware of all traffic developments. That's why your feedback is so important. Security forces will increase their presence around the post office and Holm Center.
