Spring cleaning can be fun at the Fairy Godmother's Ball at 6:30 p.m. May 11 at the Maxwell Event Center.

A donation of ladies' and gentlemen's formalwear is the entry ticket to an evening out, and the items collected will benefit Cinderella's Closet at the Gunter thrift shop, run by the Maxwell-Gunter Enlisted Spouses Club.

Participants can wear fancy dresses and enjoy dancing and finger foods. They can enter to win door prizes, and the first 50 to arrive get swag bags.

"We encourage mothers to bring their daughters and have a girls' night," said Brandy O'Mary, club president. "This is also a great way to get out of the house and meet new people."

The Maxwell-Gunter Officers' Spouses Club is joining in on the fun, and representatives from the club said they hope the event will fill Cinderella's Closet.

"I am super excited that the officer spouses and the enlisted spouses are teaming up together for this event," said Lisa McCaffrey, the officers' spouses club president. "It is an opportunity to socialize with other spouses, and we are hoping ladies and gents will clean out their closets and donate any item that can be loaned out."

Cinderella's Closet is a lending program through the Maxwell-Gunter Enlisted Spouses Club Thrift Shop, building 850 at Gunter. Identification card holders can borrow dresses and accessories for a $10 deposit. When they return the items dry cleaned, they get their deposit back.

"The program is important because it helps alleviate some of the expense of formal outfits, whether it be for someone who has one event a year or 10," O'Mary said.
