Employers are coming to the Maxwell Event Center April 26 looking to fill full- and part-time positions.

The employment expo, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., will feature governmental agencies, including the Department of Corrections, Department of Education and Department of Human Resources, along with Montgomery offices and businesses, such as BB&T Corporation, Edwards Jones, Jackson Hospital and the Renaissance Montgomery Hotel.

Maxwell Air Force Base is hiring too, and representatives from nonappropriated funds human resources, the family child care program and Army and Air Force Exchange Service will attend.

Kevin Myers, the employment assistance consultant at the Airman and Family Readiness Center, encourages all job seekers to attend.

"This provides two things -- one, the convenience of having the employers here on Maxwell to give our customers easy access to them in one area," he said. "Secondly, it provides those individuals who've never attended a job fair some much-needed experience for those that they may attend in the future."

Myers tells those attending to treat the expo like a job interview. They should dress appropriately and bring current resumes.

This also is a chance to make a good first impression. "(Job seekers should) be very enthusiastic, flexible, look for positions closely related to their current field," Myers said. "Also, (they should) arrive within the first two hours of the start time and never come late or close to the end."

Myers also tells applicants to rehearse introductions, highlighting their qualifications.
"(They should) practice giving a short introduction of themselves, which include name and quick synopsis of their background (job related experience)," he said.
