Exchange hosts events

In honor of African-American History Month, the Maxwell Exchange will have a cultural food tasting event starting at 11 a.m. Saturday sponsored by many African-American food vendors in the area. Dancers from Johnnie Carr Middle School will perform interpretive dance in the exchange, and Wanda Ashe will present a monologue on Harriett Tubman.

At noon Monday, Lt. Col. Herbert Carter, African-American war hero, fighter pilot with the 99th Fighter Squadron and a Tuskegee Airman, will visit the exchange.

From 11 a.m. to 3 p.m., a replica of the bus on which Rosa Parks performed her act of civil disobedience that spurred the Montgomery Bus Boycott will be parked in front of the exchange.

The exchange will sponsor a coloring contest for youth to honor the Tuskegee Airmen and the Buffalo Soldiers. Children's artwork will be judged Thursday, and gift cards will be awarded for the best artwork in respective age groups. Coloring sheets are available at the front of the main store. All entries must be received at customer services by Wednesday.
