Maxwell Basketball Team plays to regain first Saturday

The Maxwell men's varsity basketball team seek to avenge an early season loss against Eglin in its final regular season game at 1 p.m. this Saturday in the Maxwell Fitness Center.

Maxwell is a three-way tie for first place with Eglin and Moody AFB, all with identical 8-3 records. The coaching staff said this is a must-win game to automatically regain first place and become regular-season champions. A win would also give the team a first round bye going into the Southeastern Military Athletic Conference tournament next week.

The team and coaching staff said they encourage the base populace to show their support at Saturday's game.

"This has been a good season for the team," said coach Marvie Epps. "The guys have put in many hours of hard work and sacrifices to be in a tie for first place. Knowing what's at stake, they really want to do something that hasn't been achieved here at Maxwell in a very long time. So hopefully the gym will be packed."
