New location enhances Maxwell Community Library Published Jan. 20, 2012 By Kelly Deichert Air University Public Affairs MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. -- A new venue means more space and more services available at the new Maxwell Community Library. Members of the community can enjoy an expanded computer lab with an area for laptop hookups. Youth can relax and read in the new teen center or play Wii on a new flat-screen television. The new facility offers a fun environment for children as well with the "learning tree" reading room. "Children and their parents can sit inside the tree to share stories and they can also attend our weekly story hour which is held inside the tree every Tuesday at 10:30 a.m.," said Marsha Taylor, library director. The public can use the library's media room and conference room, which features historical paintings. "The library moved primarily to provide a larger and better facility for our library patrons," Taylor said. Building 910, across from the 42nd Air Base Wing Headquarters, features more than 13,000 square feet of space, larger than the previous location by the base theater, which was almost 6,000 square feet. The new location, which opened Nov. 28, already is getting rave reviews. "It's grand," said Tom Butler, an Air Force retiree and regular library patron. "The layout is first-class." He was impressed by the computer lab and children's room, especially the "learning tree." "That's as cute as it can be," he said. To Taylor, the library provides an important benefit to the Maxwell community. "The library is a special place that offers lifelong learning," she said. The library is unique since it appeals to all ages, from children to retirees, and provides resources and programs at no cost to patrons. "We provide free access to books, research information, computers, online resources, services, training and support," Taylor said. "We care about people and are interested in meeting their needs." She encourages the community to visit the new facility and see what it has to offer. "You will want to visit the library to see some unique artwork and to take advantage of the many services and programs we have available for the public," Taylor said. The library is open to active-duty military and their families, Department of Defense personnel and their families, retirees, active-duty Reservists, personnel on temporary duty and Troy students. The Maxwell Community Library is open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday through Thursday, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 1-5 p.m. Sunday. The library is closed on holidays.
