Baking war serves as call-to-arms for bakers, judges

MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala -- In the baking war, Angela Lamagna's pumpkin gingerbread trifle reigned supreme.
The competition, fought at the Maxwell Event Center Monday, featured 39 desserts from Maxwell and Gunter bakers. "I'm more than pleased with the turnout," said Lee Lindsay, MEC supervisor.
Vann Mathis, one of the judges, was impressed by the creativity and variety of desserts. "It was fabulous," said the force support manager.
"I enjoyed the margarita cupcakes," he said. "I felt like I was taking a bite out of a mixed drink." He said the peanut butter cookies and honey bun cheesecakes were tasty, too.
"I want to say 'thanks' to the participants for the tremendous turnout," Mathis said.
Participants will get a copy of a recipe book complied from all the entries.
