Spouses experience flight in C-130 Published July 22, 2011 By Adrienne Tickle 42nd Force Support Squadron MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala -- During the inaugural Spouses Orientation Flight, fifteen spouses were treated to a chance-of-a-lifetime experience as they were taken aboard a C-130 aircraft, and toured a 100-mile radius around Maxwell Air Force Base. As an addition to the Spouses Day celebration in May, the 908th Airlift Wing offered the flight to active duty military spouses. "The 908th used the spouse flight as an opportunity to demonstrate our mission to our hosts," said Lt. Col. Jerry Lobb, 908th Airlift Wing chief of public affairs. "This gave spouses a flavor of what their deployed family members will experience in a C-130." Before taking off, spouses were briefed about the history, organizational structure, mission and goals of the unit, in addition to receiving a safety briefing. During the flight, each spouse experienced the feel of the flight deck and had a birds-eye view of the different areas of the state, including a view of remaining tornado damage left in Elmore and Tallapoosa counties in the wake of the April storms. Others aboard were able to witness demonstrations about how the aircraft is used during missions. Upon return, Col. Brian Killough, commander of the 42nd Air Base Wing, and others were on hand to greet the spouses and personally thank them for their support. Because of the success of the first flight, Lobb said the 908th hopes to offer this experience again in the future.
