DBIDS processing continues

MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. -- Though Maxwell is on track to meeting its registration goals, everyone is encouraged to get their ID cards processed in the Defense Biometric Identification System as soon as possible.

"We want to stress, don't wait," said Master Sergeant Rodney Hickson, superintendent of plans and programs at the Military Personnel Flight.

All ID cardholders in the Maxwell-Gunter community must register with DBIDS by the end of June. Base employees without a Common Access Card will be issued a DBIDS card at the Visitor Control Center.

Registration takes a couple of minutes to scan the ID card and cardholder's fingerprints.
More than 13,000 have registered already, less than half of the 40,000 people who need to be processed. Starting in July, gate guards will scan IDs to ensure authorized installation access.

The staff at the gates has been sporadically using the DBIDS scanners to get hands-on experience using the equipment, Sergeant Hickson said. This also is a way to encourage people to register.

A popular question Sergeant Hickson has been asked is whether or not sponsors need to accompany dependents to registration.

"I want to emphasize, you don't need your military sponsor present," he said.
He also wants to remind parents that all ID cardholders, even children, need to register with DBIDS.

He's been answering questions from retirees, too, regarding their information in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System.

"Retirees need to make sure their cards are current with DEERS," he said.

Since DBIDS pulls information from many sources before authorizing access, outdated information will cause delays with installation access. Sergeant Hickson encouraged people to contact the Military Personnel Flight 953-6487 for information.

Registration is available from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday at the following locations:

Visitor Control Center, building 518
Military Personnel Flight Customer Service, building 804
Maxwell Clinic, building 760
Gunter Pharmacy, building 833

Saturday registration has been available at the Visitor Control Center, but will not be offered this week or March 12 due to DBIDS maintenance, said Senior Airman Juan Ramirez from the 42nd Security Forces Squadron. Registration will resume March 19 from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m.
