With one week to go, Maxwell-Gunter organizations have achieved 103 percent of their stated goal in the Heart of Alabama Combined Federal Campaign.

As of Tuesday, Maxwell personnel have exceeded the $525,493 goal, with 1,726 individuals contributing $540,419 to the campaign.

This year's Heart of Alabama CFC overall goal is $860,000, with a $1.2 million stretch goal for the fundraiser that kicked off Sept. 14 and ends Nov. 12. The fundraiser has generated $838,613, or 98 percent of the targeted total. Contributors include military, postal and other federal workers across a 24-county region.

Many units have reached or exceeded their stretch goals, "a great accomplishment," said Capt. Ian Coleman, Maxwell-Gunter CFC installation project officer.

He encouraged those who have not yet done so to donate.

"Anything, even a dollar or two, can help someone in need," he said. "It's always good to share, and you never know what's around the corner. These charities may help you or someone you know."

With a wide assortment of charities available to benefit from CFC donations, "it's hard not to find something that strikes a chord."

Air University Headquarters has reached 110 percent of its goal, breaking its previous $35,202 record set in the 2009 campaign. 42nd Air Base Wing has achieved 124 percent of goal and base mission partners have contributed 86 percent of their goal.

Base organizations going above and beyond the call of duty include: the Army and Air Force Exchange Service, which has reached 316 percent of goal; the Ira C. Eaker Center for Professional Development at 285 percent of its goal; and the 331st Recruiting Squadron, at 230 percent of its goal.

The CFC is the only authorized solicitation of employees in the federal workplace on behalf of charitable organizations. Those who wish to donate can give a one-time donation or via payroll deduction, which allows donors to spread their contributions across the year. Payments on payroll deduction pledges begin on the first pay period in January and end with the last pay period in December. Last year, more than 90 percent of all CFC funds raised were given through payroll deduction, according to the Heart of Alabama CFC website.
