AU Press moves to Research Institute Published Sept. 17, 2010 By Airman 1st Class Christopher S. Stoltz Air University Public Affairs MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. -- Air University Press celebrated the reopening of its bookstore with a ribbon-cutting ceremony at its new location Sept. 10. The event showcased the move to the Air Force Research Institute in building 693. It also highlighted new authors added to the bookstore and celebrated the role of AU Press as a key contributor to the Air University mission. "Air University Press has been in existence for 57 years, and its mission is to help educate the warfighter," said Mary Moore, Marketing Specialist with the Air Force Research Institute. "It is important for everyone to know we have relocated so we can continue to provide and educate." Lt. Gen. Allen Peck, Air University commander, Dr. Chris Cain, deputy director of the Air Force Research Institute and Dr. Bruce Murphy, chief academic officer of AFRI, were present and shared remarks during the ceremony. "We are not only celebrating a bookstore reopening today," said Dr. Cain. "We are celebrating all the achievements Air University Press has made." Dr. Cain said Air University Press produces a wide range of products that includes pamphlets, monographs, research papers, journals and books. AU Press also has newer capabilities it plans to implement in the near future, increasing the options for obtaining the full range of products to fit the needs of its customers. "Servicemembers will soon have the ability to obtain material through our webpage wherever they are in the world," said Dr. Dan Mortensen, dean of AFRI. "We will also be providing a mobile format soon as well, so our books and journals can be accessed on cellular phones and other mobile devices." In addition to electronic media, Dr. Mortensen said AU Press has plans to provide audio material for select titles in the future. "We are enhancing our infrastructure in an attempt to educate service members globally," said Dr. Mortensen. "We're proud of the 57-year legacy of Air University Press -- we look forward to a future in which we will become even better."
