Gunter Commissary reopens July 28 ahead of schedule

Shoppers can return to the Gunter Air Force Base Commissary on July 28 thanks to repairs to its main electrical panel being completed ahead of schedule.

Because of Gunter's reopening, the Maxwell Commissary, which opened on Mondays to accommodate Gunter customers, will return to its normal six-day operations Aug. 9 and will be closed Mondays, said Maxwell Store Director Ami Hernandez.

The Gunter store, which has been closed since July 6 when the main electrical panel blew, will reopen at 10 a.m. Wednesday and resume its regular hours of operation, said Bev Montgomery, store director.

"We're glad to be able to serve our customers again so soon since initial repair estimates called for us being closed for about 30 days," she said. "It was also good to have the Maxwell Commissary nearby to serve our customers during this time with extended Monday hours to meet their shopping needs. It was truly a team effort involving people from both installations and the Defense Commissary Agency that made this early reopening possible."
