Elementary school begins home visits for youngest students

  • Published
Maxwell Elementary School is implementing home visits for all students enrolled in pre-kindergarten and preschool special education programs in the upcoming school year.

Educational research supported by the National Association for the Education of Young Children recommends home visits as a method to develop a collaborative and child-directed relationship between the home and the school. Home visits provide an opportunity for teachers and families to work together in order to provide continuous growth for students.

The home visits will be conducted by both the classroom teacher and the paraeducator prior to the first day of school for these classes. Pre-kindergarten and preschool special education programs will not start Aug. 6 as previously announced.
The official start date for students enrolled in the pre-kindergarten program is Aug. 23.

The official start date for students enrolled in preschool special education classes is Aug. 9.
