The Google Way says if it takes more than three clicks to find something, the user stops looking. The LeMay Center for Doctrine Development and Education took that to heart and recently upgraded its Internet presence. With a 21st Century look and a three-click design, users searching for any LeMay Center product can find it more simply and faster than ever.

"Alan Brown was the lead designer and prototyped the page layouts to include everything we used to have as well as the new information," said Dr. Rod Winter. "Tim Frantz did the production graphics and I did the coding. We stayed within the three clicks and kept everything clean and simple."

The heart of the vibrant blue designed Web site is the Air Force Doctrine publications on the main page. Users can read all of them, research more information about them on the Communities of Practice, and even watch Web-based instruction about some of them.

The LeMay Center also teaches that same doctrine through in-resident courses and on-line instruction. Information including course dates, general information and contact information for the in-resident courses, as well as links to take the on-line courses, can be found in the second tab at the top of the new Web site.

Keeping with the three clicks plan, the third and last tab at the top of the site points to information about the wargames that the Air Force Wargaming Institute conducts at the LeMay Center. In addition, links to each wargames' Community of Practice is available.

Finally, the site includes news sections to provide each user fresh updates on doctrine, education and wargames directly from each directorate as it becomes available.

"A large part of the development of the home page was the news sections and tools for the different directorates to be able to post updated information about upcoming events and information. Members of each directorate provide content to make it a real LeMay team effort," Dr. Winter said.

In order to detect trends to the site and keep information current, the maintainers will monitor feedback from site users.

"The site has been turned over to maintenance and once the Air Force transitions to Internet Explorer 8, there will be some minor adjustments, but now we are in upkeep mode," Dr. Winter said.

The site went live less than six weeks from initial tasking. It can be accessed via the Air Force Portal by typing LeMay Center in the search tool or looking for the LeMay Center under Organizations. The next goal is to launch a similar site via the public domain before summer.
