AETC honors SAASS with Air Force Association award Published Feb. 5, 2010 By Carl Bergquist Air University Public Affairs MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. -- The School of Advanced Air and Space Studies has receieved the Air Education and Training Command's 2010 Air Force Association Aerospace Award in the Gill Robb Wilson category. "We congratulate the SAASS for their selfless dedication and wish them the best of luck at the Air Force-level competition," said Air University Commander Lt. Gen. Allen Peck. The AFA Aerospace Awards annually recognize Air Force civilians, units or groups of individuals for the most outstanding contribution to national defense in the fields of science, engineering, atmosphere/space manned flights, arts, letters, aerospace education, training and overall exceeding performance standards. Col. Tim Schultz, SAASS commandant, said the school was honored to have been selected by Air Education and Training Command for the award. "We feel privileged to represent the many fine schools and organizations at Air University," he said. "The SAASS team will continue its commitment to producing strategists for the Air Force, the nation and our coalition partners." The citation for the award noted that the School of Advanced Air and Space Studies "superbly fulfilled its mission" to prepare air-minded strategists for the United States and its allies. "The school's small faculty worked as a team to enrich and influence academic and policy debates touching on air, space and cyberspace power, and the complex strategic environment that operations in those domains must affect," the citation said. "During this period, the faculty produced two books, two book chapters, a host of journal articles, 20 book reviews and dozens of presentations across the globe."
