The Maxwell-Gunter community will celebrate Halloween Oct. 31 from 6 to 8 p.m.

On Halloween night, children will be going from door to door throughout Maxwell-Gunter housing areas trick-or-treating in search of candy and fun. This can be a concern, and safety of the children must come first.

For the Maxwell-Gunter community, the 42nd Security Forces Squadron and volunteers from other organizations will be in the neighborhoods to ensure the safety of all participants involved. To make Halloween a safe night, please consider the following tips:

·Ensure costumes are flame retardant
·Keep costumes short enough to prevent tripping and falling
·Try to use makeup instead of masks. Masks can be hot, uncomfortable and can obstruct vision
·Children should wear light colors or put reflective tape on their costumes for visibility
·Trick-or-treaters should always be in groups or accompanied by parents
·Children shouldn't enter a stranger's house or car
·Inspect treats at home in a well-lighted area
·Children need to know not to eat their treats until they return home
·Only eat unopened candies in original wrappers. Don't forget to inspect fruit for anything suspicious

These are just a few things you can do to help Halloween be a safe night. Housing residents wishing to give candy to trick-or-treaters should turn their porch lights on.
