Flu shots
The 42nd Medical Group is giving seasonal flu shots (not H1N1) tomorrow, 8 a.m. to noon, Maxwell Clinic, Building 760, for active-duty personnel and dependents.

Pharmacy 'brown bag' counseling
The Maxwell Pharmacy is holding a "brown bag" counseling session to observe National Pharmacy Month (October) Thursday, 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., at the Base Exchange mini-mall. BX shoppers are encouraged to bring their medications with any concerns or questions. 42nd Medical Group pharmacy personnel are offering free blood pressure checks and education materials. Air War College Taste of America
The AY10 Air War College class hosts their school's annual Taste of America event Oct. 24, 2 to 4:30 p.m., at the Civil Air Patrol hangar (bldg. 843) at Maxwell. Students are serving samples of regional foods highlighting fare from eight areas of the country. The event also includes a children's corner with a bouncy castle and other activities. The cost of admission is a donation of canned goods for the Montgomery Area Food Bank. 

Gunter Power outage
Gunter is scheduled for an eight-hour power outage from 10 p.m., Nov. 10, to 6 a.m., Nov. 11, to complete transformer testing. This date is rescheduled from Oct. 10-11 due to inclement weather. For more information, contact 953-4204.

Bone marrow donor drive
Maxwell and Gunter are having a bone marrow donor drive through Nov. 5 with a goal of registering 2,500 donors. Anyone wishing to register should contact their unit points of contact. MGOSC funds
The Maxwell-Gunter Officers' Spouses' Club Charitable Committee has funds available for the 2009-2010 year. Information about requests is available using a non-government computer and clicking on the "Charitable" tab at the Web site http://sites.google.com/site/maxwellgunterosc/home.

Eating on a budget

Applying for Federal employment
Employment Assistance hosts a class Wednesday, 1:30 to 3 p.m., that supplies the knowledge to locate federal employment and discusses the different aspects of completing a résumé online. Deployment-reunion workshop
Family Readiness is conducting a deployment reunion workshop Thursday, 2 to 3 p.m. The workshop focuses on the return from deployments and remote tours so the family and military member have less stressful homecomings. Maxwell-Gunter play group
The Maxwell-Gunter play group gives Maxwell-Gunter moms, dads and their children through preschool an opportunity to socialize. Sponsorship training
Sponsorship training is required by AETC AFI 36-2104 for new sponsors. The Airman and Family Readiness Flight Relocation Program have developed an online Sponsorship Training that is available for new sponsors at https://wwwmil.maxwell.af.mil/42abw/mss/dpf/sponsorship.htm. Disaster evacuee Adopt-A-Family/Pet volunteers 
Volunteers are being sought to "adopt a family and/or their pets" in the event of a hurricane or other natural disaster that brings evacuees to the Maxwell-Gunter area. To volunteer or request more information, contact Ruben Aquilar at 953-2353 or email ruben.aguilar.ctr@maxwell.af.mil.

Civilian tuition assistance program
Fiscal Year 2010 funding is available for AETC civilian employees to receive tuition assistance for classes beginning on or after Oct. 1. Individuals are limited to one course per term. The course must be mission related or to improve employee skills to meet an Air Force mission. No fees are paid except those directly related course fees such as lab fees or technology fees. This is an AETC elective program funded at the discretion of the AETC commander. Contact the Education Services office at 953-5959/7401 for additional information.

Toastmasters International
Toastmasters International meets at both Gunter and Maxwell. On Maxwell, the club meets the second and fourth Wednesdays of each month, 11:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., in the contracting conference/training room (NW 201) on the second floor of Building 804. On Gunter, the club meets the first and third Thursdays of each month, 11:45 a.m. to 12:45 p.m., in the Koehler Room (Room 134) on the first floor of Building 856.
