Labor Day has historically signaled the end of summer and for many is a time to spend with friends and family outdoors. There is a wide range of activities offered by 42nd Force Support Squadron to explore this Labor Day.

Stay close to home while making a splash this Labor Day and visit the Lake Martin Resort. This waterfront lake recreation area is 60 miles northeast of Montgomery, and offers picnicking, fishing, hiking and boating activities. It is open year-round. Make the best out of the long weekend by pitching a tent, or by staying in one of the RV sites or mobile home and cabin rentals.

Boats and jet skis are available for rent and the recreation area features a fishing pier, playground, showers, beach and swimming area. The park has several pavilions with grills, tables and benches, perfect for a Labor Day festivity.

Those who are looking to get away can travel down to the Mid-Bay Shores Resort in Niceville, Fla. Cabin rentals are available on the Choctawatchee Bay, minutes from Destin's restaurants, entertainment and white sandy beaches. This Labor Day can be spent with fresh seafood and some of the whitest beaches in the world.

For a Labor Day celebration in your own backyard, hit the links on the Cypress Tree Golf Course. Cypress Tree will be open with normal business hours on Labor Day.

The Maxwell and Gunter pools will also be open for the last day of the summer, 11:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. After Labor Day, the pools will be closed until next summer. Labor Day is the last chance to experience the slides and poolside basketball goals available at both the Maxwell and Gunter pools.

From beach vacations, to lake outings and local summer fun, 42nd FSS has a variety of options for everyone. Those interested in accommodations at the lake or beach should contact Outdoor Recreation at 953- 6144, or for reservations, call 953-3509.
