26th NOG, Det. 2, has new commander

In a formal ceremony July 31, Lt. Col. John S. Bommer Jr. assumed command of the 26th Network Operations Group, Detachment 2, at Gunter. Colonel Bommer succeeds Lt. Col. Paul R. Guevin III . 

26th NOG, Det. 2 is part of the 67th Network Wing, headquartered at Lackland AFB, Texas. The unit's mission is operate, manage, and defend Air Force cyberspace. Members direct day-to-day protection of the Air Force Global Information Grid, or GIG, networks through control and defense of enterprise gateway boundaries, according to spokesman Capt. Steven Pena. He added unit members deliver cyber battle space situational awareness, analyze GIG performance and schedule enterprise network maintenance. 

Colonel Bonner was commissioned in 1993 from Tennessee State University and received his Master's degree in management from Colorado Technical University. His assignments include base level maintenance flight command, Headquarters Air Staff support, executive officer, program element monitor and command and control.
