New staff cars on base

Commanders at Maxwell and Gunter are driving new staff cars that have a different appearance from the previous models, according to Master Sgt. Bryan Johnson, first sergeant of the 42nd Force Support Squadron.

The new cars are Dodge Avenger models and are black, white, gray, silver and tan. The 42nd Air Base Wing commander's car is unique in that it has a white top and a dark blue body.

Sergeant Johnson said, "As a reminder, military members in uniform (as pedestrians) are required to salute staff cars when there is an occupant inside the vehicle. As a general rule, staff cars are marked with a front license plate indicating the rank of colonel or general officer."

He also said if a government vehicle has rank displayed, the car should be saluted as soon as the rank is recognized. The salute is held until the vehicle has passed or the salute has been returned.

For further information, military members can contact their first sergeant, Sergeant Johnson said.
