Base announces volunteer awards Published June 13, 2009 MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. -- Maxwell-Gunter Airman and Family Readiness Center, Family Support Branch, has announced the recipients of the Volunteer Resource Program's Volunteer Excellence Award and Angel Awards. These awards recognize volunteers for their work on base and throughout the community. The Angel Award is given for volunteer service conducted over the past year and eligibility is open to all. This year's recipients are: Religious Category Master Sgt. Ricky Higby, Gunter Noncommissioned Officer Academy Community Service Category Lisa Crean Squadron Officer College Youth Activities Category Tech. Sgt. William Van Kirk Community College of the Air Force Volunteer Excellence Award The Volunteer Excellence Award is given for long-term volunteer service. Eligibility excludes active duty members. This year's recipient is retired Col. Earl Spencer of the Maxwell-Gunter Chapel Protestant Parish.
