AETC rewards efforts of Maxwell units with top honors Published Dec. 12, 2008 By Carl Bergquist Air University Public Affairs MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala. -- As 2008 comes to an end, the Air Education and Training Command vice commander, Maj. Gen. Anthony Przybyslawski, announced Monday that Air University and the 42nd Air Base Wing have received Air Force Organizational Excellence Awards and an Air Force Outstanding Unit Award respectively. "These awards are tangible recognition of the efforts of the great people assigned to Air University," Lt. Gen. Allen Peck, Air University commander, said of the university's AFOEAs. "The awards solidify Air University's standing as the intellectual and leadership center of the Air Force." Ten organizations at Air University took AFOEA honors, having been nominated for the awards to recognize the hard work they had done for Air University. The accomplishments include implementation of an Air Command and Staff College master's degree program, retooling of Air and Space Basic Course, consolidation of the Reserve Officer Training Corps summer field training programs, the Air Force Test Pilot School receiving full Air University master's degree accreditation, and the hosting of two Senior Enlisted Leader Summits at Gunter Annex. Col. Kris Beasley, 42nd ABW commander, said the wing is in line with the Chief of Staff of the Air Force's goals of flying, fighting and winning our nations wars in air, space and cyberspace for the 21st century. "Our folks worked hard to garner this award, and their hard work paid off," he said. The nomination document sent by the 42nd ABW for award consideration said the wing qualified for the AFOUA because it made significant contributions to national objectives. "During the award period, the 42nd ABW provided premiere services, programs and hosted Air Force-level events which shaped the future of the Air Force as a whole," the document said. "Time and again, the wing was recognized for its personnel and programs as being the best in the command, and in several instances, the best in the Air Force." The 42nd Air Base Wing took the AFOUA for the sixth time since 1997. The wing is cited for distinguishing itself with exceptionally meritorious service from July 2007 to June 2008.
