The 30th Annual Glenn Miller Concert will continue its tradition of support for the Montgomery Area Food Bank by collecting canned good donations from concert attendees.

The free concert will be held at the Davis Theater at 7 p.m., Dec. 9. Doors open at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are not required. Seating is first come, first-serve. Canned good donations are encouraged, but not required for admission.

The U.S. Air Force "Airmen of Note" will perform big-band swing favorites and holiday music, in the style of the late renowned band leader Glenn Miller, who was stationed at Maxwell for a short time in 1942.

Former Air University Commander (1981-1984) Lt Gen (retired) Charles G. Cleveland initiated the concert tradition as a tribute to Glenn Miller in December 1982. Glenn Miller, a U.S. Army Air Corps Capt., and Maxwell's Rythmaires band performed a Christmas concert on the base in an aircraft hangar in December 1942.
Two years after his concert at Maxwell, Glenn Miller was ordered to France after the D-Day Invasion. His plane encountered trouble en-route and he and the others aboard that flight were never heard from again. His Maxwell concert was the inspiration for an annual holiday tribute to him.
