Summer is finally here and many people are looking for family-oriented summer fun activities. The 42nd Services Division has activities to help families beat the heat and have fun too.

The Maxwell and Gunter community pools are open Tuesday through Friday, 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. for lap swimming and 1 to 7 p.m. for open swimming; Saturday and Sunday, 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. for open swimming and relaxing fun with your floats and noodles. Each pool has a 12-foot flume-slide and pool-side basketball goal. With the pools open late during the week, pack your swim suit and make the pool your destination when you get off work each day.

If you are looking for indoor activities as well, try the Ceramics shop Tuesday and Thursday, 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Saturday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. and learn a new hobby. A June special offers 25 percent off regular prices for bisque. Think about creating something beautiful for Father's Day, birthdays and holidays coming up.

Both Maxwell and Gunter bowling facilities have great summer specials through August. Gunter offers a Family Fun Pack with two hours of bowling for four people, a large, one topping pizza and a pitcher of soda for $25. Maxwell's Family Fun Pack offers two hours of bowling for up to six people including shoes for $20.

"Beat the Heat" children's bowling special at Maxwell and Gunter runs through August and offers bowling games for $1 and shoes for 50 cents. The special runs Monday through Friday, 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The Maxwell bowling facilities want to help Dad celebrate on Saturday, June 20, 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. with free games for dad when accompanied by a child. Gunter Lanes Father's Day special is Saturday, June 20, dads bowl for free during glow bowl when accompanied by a child bowling. Shoes are not included. Bring Dad to celebrate and have some cool indoor fun and great food.

The Gunter Youth Center invites the Maxwell-Gunter community to an outdoor movie night on June 19 beginning at 7:30 p.m. Their blow-up screen is a giant 20 feet by 20 feet. The family movie will be "Marley and Me." Bring a lawn chair and blanket to enjoy the movie in comfort. The screen is set up across from Gunter Lanes.

Refreshment will be available for purchase from nearby Gunter Lanes.
