42d Air Base Wing Command Chief Master Sergeant, Chief Master Sgt. Laura Callaway, recognized the newest Chief Master Sgt. selects Dec. 17, 2015, at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama.

Callaway went to each of the new Chief Master Sgt. select's place of work and rounded them up on a bus where they traveled to the 42d Air Base Wing conference room to be recognized for their achievement.

They were given a congratulatory letter from Col. Barry Dickey, 42d Air Base Wing vice commander.

"Very few people get to this level and they have been recognized for the things that they've done and the things they are going to do in the future.  It's important to have a great leadership in this day in age," said Callaway.

Chief Master Sgt. is the highest enlisted rank in the U.S. Air Force and the top 1 percent of the Air Force enlisted force reach the rank of Chief Master Sgt.

Today and tomorrow, the selects will celebrate and be welcomed by their fellow Chiefs; however with more rank comes more responsibility.

"Hopefully this will all sink into them and they can take time to recognize and enjoy their achievements, but there is a lot of work to be done later on so I'm sure they'll all see pretty soon that there is a great responsibility in raising our newest and greatest Airmen. So I hope that they enjoy today and see how unique of an opportunity that they have," said Callaway.

The celebration will continue with a promotion celebration for the new Chief Master Sgt. selects Dec. 18, 2015, at 3 p.m. at the Senior Non-Commissioned Officer Academy's library.
