The 42d Contracting Squadron commander, Lt. Col. Daniel Stupinski, and Air Force Office of Special Investigations Detachment 405 commander, Special Agent Helen Stewart, sign a memorandum of understanding Dec. 8, 2015 at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama.

The memorandum of understanding outlines the cooperation and organizational relationship between the two parties to prevent and prosecute contract fraud at Maxwell AFB.

The two commanders hope that with the formalization of the memorandum will eliminate and prevent fraud and criminal activity within the 42d Contracting Squadron.

"This is an important issue because we're trusted with the tax payer's money and we're here to make sure it's spent in a legal and ethical fashion to prevent fraud and snuff it out in all dark corners," said Stupinski.

Stewart added that the purpose of the AFOSI Detachment 405 is to protect the integrity of the Air Force, especially through the acquisition process.

Now that the memorandum is in effect, people may think twice before they consider fraudulent activity against the government, said Stupinski.  It's easier and cheaper to prevent fraudulent activity verses prosecuting individual after the fact.
