MAXWELL AIR FORCE BASE, Ala --
A training class started on Maxwell Air Force Base to prepare participants to take part in a triathlon hosted on base, Sept. 11, 2015.
Participants can test their readiness for the endurance race at no cost, with multiple class levels.
"The triathlon is going to be a good event this year. We timed it better to be able to include the ACSC and war college students, which is going to increase our numbers," said Josh Hale, head trainer, Maxwell Fitness Center. "We want to encourage max participation, and part of that was to offer training classes for inexperienced triathletes. "
Those interested in the classes are not required to participate in the race , but the class will be geared toward preparing those involved to be able to finish the event.
There are two different groups that participate in these event, said Hale. There are finishers and there are racers. The finishers just want to come out and have a good time and complete the race. We have a beginning class to train participants so they can transition between the three different events while building their endurance and finish the race.
The advanced class goes into more depth on how to increase speed and fluidity throughout the event, said Hale. This course is for people who either compete to win or are trying to beat their personal best.
"There is a big difference in teaching how the gears on a bike work and how to move efficiently in water," said Hale. "I want to magnify the stress that will take place on the body on race day so that the event will be easier than expected. In a sprint length race like this, minutes matter. Knowing that, preparation is key, and this class can significantly help with that."
