Maxwell Air Force Base will host a triathlon on base, Sept. 11, 2015.

Cost is free to participants for the sprint distance race, available for team or individual competition.

Individual competitors will swim 400-yards, bike 8-miles and run 4-miles. Teams who wish to compete must have four people, one of the four must be a female. They will divide the distance of each leg into fours in a relay style race, said Jessica Rudolph, 42ndForce Support Squadron representative.

The event will start at the base pool and finish at Maxwell's Air Park. There will be prizes for those over 50 years old, both male and female, and for those under the 50-year mark.

"While it is not necessarily a commemorative September 11th event, we do feel like the event can showcase resolve and resiliency through an endurance race much like our country showed through the attacks on that day," said Rudolph. "We are really hoping for a large group of participants, but also a lot of support from around the base to cheer on the racers."

Interested participants without bicycles can rent them from outdoor recreation, 953-3509. Race facilitators are expecting for approximately 200 participants, roughly 60 more than previous year's races.

Anyone interested in participating in this year's event can sign up at the Maxwell Fitness Center or Gunter Fitness Center and by calling 953-5953.
