The 26th Network Operation Squadron welcomed its new commander when Lt. Col. James Hewitt relinquished command to Lt. Col. Omar Velasco during the change of command ceremony July 10, 2015, held at Maxwell-Gunter Annex, Alabama.

Hewitt will be moving on to serve as the Joint Staff deputy, Cyberspace Division directorate.

Col. Pamela Woolley, 26th Cyberspace Operations Group commander, Joint-Base San Antonio-Lackland, Texas, officiated the ceremony.

In her remarks, Woolley thanked Hewitt for his service and praised the Airmen serving at the NOS.

"To the members of the 26th NOS, you can feel confident that you are getting an outstanding new commander, and I want to thank you personally for your continuous service and sacrifice, I'm honored to serve with you, such an outstanding group of people every day, and especially in this critical time in cyber," said Woolley.

Before leaving the squadron, Hewitt said a few words to its members and about the time he served as their commander.

"Last but not least, to the men and women of the 26th NOS, truly, it's been an honor to be a part of this team. There were a lot of things that were read during the decoration when I was standing up here, and then Colonel Woolley said a bunch of nice things about me in her speech, but I want you to know that none of those are my accomplishments, those are your accomplishments," said Hewitt.

Velasco began his command by acknowledging Hewitt's service and greeting his new teammates.

"I have some big shoes to fill, and I am up for the challenge," said Velasco. "To my teammates of the 26th NOS, I am very excited to be joining a winning team with a critically important service mission and extraordinary reputation for getting the job done better than anyone else. ... I look forward to getting to know the 26th NOS, and I am ready to get going."
