Maj. Gen. Timothy Leahy took command of the Curtis E. LeMay Center for Doctrine Development and Education at Maxwell Air Force Base, July 9, 2015.

Leahy previously served as the U.S. Special Operations Command director of operations at MacDill Air Force Base, Florida.

"My family and I are extremely excited to be here," said the command pilot. "This is a great opportunity to mold the minds of tomorrow's Air Force leaders."

As commander of the LeMay Center, Leahy will be leading the development of operational-level doctrine and establishing the Air Force's position in joint and multinational doctrine.

"The reality is, controlling air, space and cyber is critical to winning the fight," he said. "That is why we have an Air Force. The most lethal weapon in the Air Force is our people. Like fuel is to an aircraft, knowledge is to our people. We are going to be on the cutting edge of transforming the way that we educate and provide knowledge."

Transforming education is an ongoing process at Air University. Along with commanding the Lemay Center, Leahy will serve as AU's vice commander.

"He will be a vital addition to Air University as we transform the way we educate," said Lt. Gen. Steven L. Kwast, Air University commander. "Winning future conflicts before they start begins with the mind. He will play a key role in developing those minds that will keep this nation safe."

The LeMay Center develops and publishes Air Force doctrine, teaches doctrine through resident and on-line courses, and advocates airpower through visionary wargaming.
