Maj. Mishaun Smith assumed command of the 42nd Comptroller Squadron during an assumption of command ceremony here June 25, 2015.

Smith is new to Maxwell, but not new to leading a squadron. Before arriving to Maxwell, she served as the commander of the comptroller squadron at Incirlik Air Base, Turkey.

"She is fresh off a successful command tour with the 39th Comptroller Squadron in Turkey and since no good deed goes unpunished, we're going to ask her to do it all over again here at Maxwell," said Col. Andrea Tullos, 42nd Air Base Wing commander.

Before handing over command to Smith, Tullos highlighted Smith's previous work in the Air Force, thanked the major's family for their support and enlightened Smith on the job that was waiting for her on Maxwell.

"You'll be responsible for the engine that keeps Air University in the business of training and educating, keeps the 908th Airlift Wing planes flying, keeps the Department of Defense networks operational, delivers combat-ready Airmen, keeps our families, retirees and veterans well cared for, and you will lead a team of dedicated, energetic and innovated Airmen with civilian and military who are just two years young as a squadron, but who play like seasoned veterans," said Tullos.

Smith conveyed her readiness and excitement to lead the squadron and acknowledged that the job won't be easy.

"It is of great honor and excitement that I accept the reigns of command of the 42nd Comptroller Squadron," said Smith. "I also accept it humbly, with the understanding that this opportunity of command is both the greatest reward and greatest challenge that I will face in my career."

Despite the challenges that leadership can bring, Smith assured Airmen that the quality of service will be upheld to a high standard, and she looks forward to becoming a member of the team.

"I look forward to building long, solid relationships with my commanders and the entire staff of this great base," she said. "I assure you that we will strive to continue to provide the best financial management support possible. Lastly, but not least, to the men and women of the 42nd Comptroller Squadron, I pledge to you my loyalty, my support and leadership.  I am delighted to be given the opportunity to serve as your commander.  I look forward to working with each and every one of you.  Your drive to support each other and your leaders is what made this organization successful in the past, and we'll continue to do so."
