It is time to get the winter dust off of your golf clubs. Intramural golf is set to kick off at Maxwell on March 11.

Teams of four will represent their unit in best-ball scrambles on Maxwell's University Course every Wednesday, teeing off at noon.

Each team of four will split into two sets of two and square off for 18-holes. One point will be awarded to the tandem that wins the most holes each set of nine, plus a decisive third point for overall holes won.

"This year, with the River Course being closed, we will not be on a closed course for intramurals," said Melanie Gess, Maxwell's intramural sports director. "We will have to adapt to playing with regular customers on the course."

The number of games played will be decided once all teams are submitted to Gess. Every team will match up against all other teams during the regular season to determine seating for the playoffs. Each team will make the playoffs in a single elimination bracket, marching toward the championship.

"Last year we had 10 teams, and we are expecting more this year," said Gess. "We've had twice the interest and are expecting a great field. Our golf course is a very good course that is comparable to many off-base venues, and the spring weather in Alabama is great for golf."

If a unit wants to participate but doesn't have enough players to fill out a team, they can request team members from the players pool. Also, if a unit is not having a team but a member wants to play, that person can add themselves to the players pool to be picked up by another unit.

"The schedule will be released about a week prior to the first match," said Gess. "You don't have to be a great golfer to participate. This is a stress-free environment to come out and play the game and have a good time. With it being best-ball, you can have plenty of bad shots because your team will get multiple shots to get a good one in."
