Airmen and civilians from the 42nd Air Base Wing and Air University Headquarters at Maxwell are set to attend an entire day of wingman resiliency-focused activities Oct. 9 during Maxwell's "Forever rising to the occasion" Wingman Resiliency Day.

This resiliency day focuses on the mental and spiritual pillars of the Comprehensive Airman Fitness Concept and allows Airmen across Maxwell and Gunter Annex to come together and learn ways to tackle life's challenges together.

"Having the whole 42nd ABW together with members of AU allows us to feel the  resilient spirit of the Maxwell-Gunter community," said Capt. Tamara Rue, 42nd Air Base Wing chaplain and wingman resiliency day coordinator.

According to the schedule of events, the day will begin with an allotment of time for each individual commander to hold their own resilience call.

"The hour allotted for individual commander's calls is meant to give senior leaders an opportunity to have face-time with their units and cross-talk about issues near to their hearts," said Rue.

The day progresses with key speakers talking to Airmen about mental and spiritual pillar topics as well as an energy and safety expo.

"In addition to the fire muster, I really want Airmen to get excited about the energy expo and the safety expo," said Rue. "Tesla Motors and BMW will have all-electric cars on display. We'll have yoga and message therapy booths in addition to the resiliency speakers.  If you're the kind of person that thrives off of knowledge or how-to's, those are things that will have an echoing effect with you."

The final event for the day will be a fire muster, where teams representing units from all over base participate in different events meant to test their teamwork and endurance.

"The fire muster will be comprised of five different events meant to test teamwork and quickness," said Tech. Sgt. Mitchell Robinson, Maxwell Fire Department wingman day representative. "The events will be the midnight alarm, obstacle course, hose joust, bucket brigade and fire hose operations."

In the spirit of wingman day, it's not just the strongest and quickest that come out on top; it's the team with the most synergy.

"These events are set up to work on strategy and team work," Robinson said. "The team that works the best together will win."

Not only will they win bragging rights, but they will also come away with hardware.

"The first place team will get their name on a traveling trophy," Robinson said. "First, second and third will all get smaller awards too."
